Production Technical Managers

The Technical Manager (TM) oversees all technical aspects of one or more seasonal productions including, but not limited to, sound, and lighting. Responsibilities include coordinating the tasks of each technical department, attending technical rehearsals and production meetings, and being an on-call resource for technical support during the shows’ run. The Technical Manager reports to the Technical Director to ensure all aspects of the technical production are completed on time, within budget, and within the capabilities of the Theatre and its technical infrastructure. The Technical Manager collaborates with Production Designers, as well as lighting and sound volunteers (Run Crews) who operate the equipment during the show performances.

Candidates must be responsible and reliable and possess a working knowledge of Theatrical Lighting and Sound systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Set Designer (including set builder and scenic artist), Lighting Designer, and Sound
  • Designer to ensure that the production vision is realized within the capabilities of the Theatre technical
  • infrastructure, time, budget, and personnel.
  • Oversees all technical aspects of the show design including lighting design and sound design.
  • In collaboration with the Theatre Technical Director:
    • Ensures that all technical equipment is in good working order at the beginning of Tech Week
    • Ensure that all technical equipment is in good working order at the close of the show run
    • Maintains an inventory of all technical equipment
    • Maintains current documentation describing the configuration and operation of lighting and sound systems.
    • Provides to Designers and Tech volunteers as necessary.
    • Maintains schematics relevant to the space as well as information regarding limitations or restrictions in design.
    • Provides to Designers and Tech volunteers as necessary.
  • Attend all Production meetings and lead discussions of Tech requirements as needed.
  • Attend tech week events including but not limited to set load-in and build, light hang and test, and all technical rehearsals.
  • Be available as an on-call resource in person or by phone throughout the run of the show.
  • Schedule, supervise, and train student and volunteer-run crews.
