From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee comes the Tony Award-winning musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs, and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love.
Memphis is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s—the seedy nightclubs, radio stations, and recording studios of the musically-rich Tennessee city. One fateful night on Beale Street, white radio DJ Huey Calhoun—a good ole’ local boy with a passion for R&B music—meets Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming black singer who is ready for her big break. Despite the objections of their loved ones, the two embark on a dangerous affair. But as their careers rise, the relationship is challenged by personal ambition and the pressures of an outside world unable to accept their love.
Inspired by actual events, Memphis is filled with laughter, soaring emotion, and an original roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll score by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. The show won four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
